This former shipowner mansion of the 17th century displays the typical architecture of the Island of Ré. Its owner, Olivia Le Calvez, had a real crush for this majestic building. She was able to refurbish it in close co-operation with the interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, by harmoniously combining the charm and authenticity of the Charente tradition with the comfort of a high luxury property. Each of the 20 rooms and suites of the hotel dedicates its name and its decoration to the leading historical figures of the region. Old stones, elaborate wainscoting, period furniture, precious fabrics immerse visitors in the décor of the history of the Island of Ré.
Animated by the heart and soul of this port city, carried by the soft rolling of the sailboats, the Hôtel de Toiras***** will offer you the extra portion of soul of a warm residence with discreet elegance.
Sometimes you enter a hotel and you feel wellbeing, and a real crush!!!! The location is superb with a view of the port; the welcome and the service are perfect. No false note, everybody is painstakingly looking for the slightest detail, responding to every request.
The Mme de Sévigné Suite in which we stayed is magnificent, comfortable, intimate. We have benefited from the fireplace given the rainy day, a real treat! The bedding is perfect.
To put it in a nutshell, the hotel perfectly lives up to its five stars with a touch of charm, and you will feel at home thanks to its small dimension which offers a pleasant intimacy.

We reserved on the eve the “going to the market with the chef” package and it was a marvellous experience.
Towards the end of the morning we met the chef to go to the halls of Saint-Martin to buy several products. The chef (Italian), a bit shy at the beginning, recommended great products and several recipes to us. It was quite exciting to go to the market with a professional for an hour.
During the evening the menu was fully adapted to our wishes and refined the products bought at the market.
Tasty dishes, generous but also subtle and simple. This is a great chef. By expressing even more of his creativity and daring even more of his authenticity, I think that he can go very far.
We are certainly here at the level of one Michelin star, a rather rare feature on the Island of Ré.
But let’s not forget the setting: simply divine! A lovely little dining room with a view of the kitchen, the wallpapers, the paintings, the little patio . . . it is a real gem of absolute romanticism.
Finally, the service is of a very fine elegance, highly attentive and professional. Very good wine recommendations (with very fair pricing).
And the young woman who served us, illuminated our evening with her smile and kindness.
